CHINESE NOISE • VOICES FROM THE SCENE 017
MIKE REDMAN
01 Introduction
Mike Redman is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans music, film and visual art. One of the most recognizable voices in hardcore, he has remained a constant presence in underground culture for more than three decades.
Having known Akira since the mid-1990s, Mike has watched Hong Kong Violence grow from an idea into one of the defining platforms for terror and extreme hardcore. This July, he returns to the HKV Stage at Dominator Festival 2026 as host, bringing his unmistakable energy to another chapter of the HKV story.
02 Finding HKV
Mike’s connection with HKV goes back long before the label even existed.
"I’ve known head-honcho Akira since the mid 90's. He was already exceptional and had his distinctive sound. Mostly Speedcore at that time."
What stood out wasn’t just the music.
"He had a very playful way of DJing, and still has!"
Looking back, he still sees that same playful spirit reflected in HKV today.
"You can definitely trace this back in what HKV stands for today."
03 My Favorite HKV Track
Choosing a favorite HKV track isn’t easy.
"Actually there’s too many to mention and this also depends on my mood of the day."
04 Playing The HKV Stage at Dominator
For Mike, the HKV Stage has built its own reputation over the years.
"The HKV stage always tears up the Dominator festival. It’s fast, furious and the crowd is always amazing."
This year, he returns in a different role.
"If I were playing a set, there would definitely be some heads rolling, but since I’m in a hosting position, I’d be happy to rip out some vocal chords."
05 Learning From The Generations Before
Looking at hardcore across generations, Mike sees a natural progression.
"Well, the OG’s are the foundation and audio architects."
It’s something he believes should never be forgotten.
"It’s great to see that they are as relevant as ever especially when you see that a new generation is embracing their legacy."
The future looks just as promising.
"The next gen respectfully extends what was built early on and brings new ideas and energy to it. In a few years they will be OG’s too!"
06 What HKV Means To Me
For Mike, HKV represents something much bigger than music.
"HKV are defenders of the Terror gospel and beyond."
It’s a home for those who have always chosen their own path.
"They provide the soundtrack for musical misfits and audio outcasts that reinforce each other."
He sums it up perfectly.
"No hipster stuff, just pure passion."
07 Favorite HKV Merch
"I’m still waiting on a HKV onesie."
08 One Word
If Mike had to describe HKV using one word?
ABSOLUTELYFVCKINAMAZING
09 A Message To HKV
