CHINESE NOISE • VOICES FROM THE SCENE 014
THE DESTROYER
Respect the Roots
01 Introduction
The Destroyer is one of the true veterans of the terror scene. Throughout his career, he has remained deeply connected to the roots of hardcore from vinyl culture to preserving the raw sound of the Amiga era.
This July, he joins Akira for a special HKV Live vinyl set at the Hong Kong Violence Stage during Dominator Festival 2026.
02 Finding HKV
The Destroyer first discovered Hong Kong Violence through one of the label’s earliest releases.
"The first time I got in contact with HKV was in the 2000s with the HKV002 vinyl: Competition Is None Vol. 1."
Although he enjoyed the entire record, one track immediately stood out.
"I was really impressed by the Noizefucker track ‘4 Minutes of My Fucked Up Life’. At the time, it was the first time I heard a track going that fast from the very beginning to the end."
03 My Favorite HKV Track
NUKOM – Inurface
"That track quickly puts me into an early terror mood."
"It’s my favorite style."
04 Playing The HKV Stage at Dominator
This year, The Destroyer joins Akira for a special HKV Live vinyl set.
"This year we’ll play a vinyl set with Akira as HKV Live."
"It’s a great chance for me to spin the five new vinyls I’ve released recently."
"Of course, as always, I’ll also drop tracks from way back, stuff I’ve played since day one."
05 Learning From The Generations Before
Looking back at the evolution of hardcore, The Destroyer believes the older generation experienced something unique.
"Those of us who have been in the scene since the beginning experienced the exact right evolution: from techno, to hardcore, to terror, in the correct chronological order."
"That’s the real legacy we pass on: the roots."
"The new generation can study it, they can observe it, but they will never get to experience that evolution firsthand, in the very moment it was meant to be lived."
"My hope for the future? That they respect that history and keep pushing the limits, even if they didn’t live through the birth of it."
06 What HKV Means To Me
For The Destroyer, HKV is the underground.
"It is the underground."
"Especially at Dominator, it’s the only stage where I’m 100% sure I’ll hear true terror and extreme styles."
"And it’s not just about the music: I know the crowd there shares that same mindset and stays completely true to the original core."
07 Favorite HKV Merch
"The HKV Bubble Uzi tee."
"I love the contrast between the innocent looking Uzi and the extreme music that HKV represents."
08 One Word
If he had to describe HKV in one word?
HARDCORE
"In the deepest sense of the word. They might experiment with sounds, but that rebel attitude and the true hardcore vibe never change. That spirit is always there."
09 A Message To HKV
"Respect for 25 years of keeping it real."
"See you at the Hong Kong Violence Stage at Dominator. Let’s celebrate the right way."
